How Do I Convert Salary to an Hourly Rate?

Divide your annual salary by the hours you work in a year. A full-time 40-hour week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary is about $28.85 an hour. From a monthly salary, multiply by 12 first: $4,000 a month is $48,000 a year, or about $23.08 an hour. It works the same in any currency.

Salary to Hourly Formula

Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × 52)

For a 40-hour week that's annual ÷ 2,080. For a 37.5-hour week use annual ÷ 1,950, and for a 48-hour week use annual ÷ 2,496. To go the other way, hourly × 2,080 = annual salary.

How the Converter Divides Your Salary

Example: $60,000 a year is $5,000 a month, about $2,308 biweekly, $1,154 a week, $231 a working day and $28.85 an hour. These are gross figures before tax.

Percentage Change and Ratio Split

The converter's other two modes cover related sums. Percentage change shows a pay rise as a percentage: 50,000 to 55,000 is +10%. Ratio split divides a total by a ratio: 10,000 in profit split 60:40 gives 6,000 and 4,000, and 1:1:1 splits a bill equally three ways.

To check a pay rise, use the percentage increase calculator, and for any rise or fall, the percentage change calculator. Turn your pay into a monthly plan with the monthly budget calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. For a 40-hour week, that's annual salary ÷ 2,080. For example, $50,000 a year ÷ 2,080 = about $24.04 an hour. If you know your monthly salary, multiply it by 12 first.

How much is $4,000 a month per hour?

About $23.08 an hour at 40 hours a week, since $4,000 × 12 = $48,000 a year and 48,000 ÷ 2,080 = 23.08. At 48 hours a week it's about $19.23 an hour. Both figures are before tax, and the same maths works in any currency.

How do I convert an hourly rate to a yearly salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work in a year. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, that's hourly × 2,080, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year and $40 an hour is $83,200. Divide the yearly figure by 12 for the monthly amount.

Why does the converter use 2,080 hours a year?

2,080 is 40 hours a week × 52 weeks, the standard full-time basis used by most salary-to-hourly calculators. It counts paid holidays as paid hours. If your normal week is different, divide your annual salary by your weekly hours × 52 instead, such as 1,950 for 37.5 hours.

How do I convert an annual salary into a biweekly paycheck?

Divide the annual salary by 26, the number of two-week pay periods in a year. A $60,000 salary is about $2,308 every two weeks before tax. Some employers pay semi-monthly, 24 times a year, which gives $2,500 per paycheck, so check your pay schedule.

Does unpaid leave change my hourly rate?

Your hourly rate stays the same, but your yearly pay falls by the unpaid hours. At $25 an hour, two unpaid weeks of 80 hours cost $2,000. On a fixed salary, your employer's deduction method sets the exact amount, so check your payslip or contract.

How do I calculate a pay raise percentage?

Choose Percentage Change, enter your current salary as the original value and your new salary as the new value. A rise from 50,000 to 55,000 shows as +10%. The formula is (new − old) ÷ old × 100.
