How the Countdown Is Calculated

• If your birthday is still to come this year, the target is this year's date; if it has passed, it's next year's.
• Days left = next birthday − today, counted to midnight, then broken into hours, minutes and seconds.
• Birthdays celebrated equals your current age: the birthdays you've already had.
• Half-birthday = six months after your birthday date.

Worked Example

Born 15 June 1990, checked on 25 September 2026: this year's birthday has passed, so the next one is Tuesday 15 June 2027, 263 days away. They've celebrated 36 birthdays, and their next half-birthday is 15 December 2026.

Leap-Year Birthdays (29 February)

If you were born on 29 February, the countdown uses 1 March in years without a 29 February. Many people celebrate on 28 February instead; the law in some countries treats 1 March as the birthday for age purposes. In leap years the countdown targets 29 February itself.
