How Old Will I Be in a Future Year?

Subtract your birth year from the future year to get the age you'll turn during that year: born in 1995, you turn 55 in 2050. On a specific date, you're a year younger if your birthday hasn't come yet. Enter your date of birth and any date, past or future, for your exact age in years, months and days.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Enter a target date, or tap Age in 2030, 2040 or 2050.
  3. Read your exact age on that day. It works for past dates too: how old were you on a given day?

Worked Examples

Why Not Just Subtract the Years?

Year subtraction tells you the age you reach during a year, not on a particular day. For deadlines, the day matters: an age cut-off on 1 September, a pension date or a visa rule. The calculator counts the full calendar dates, including leap years.

When People Use It

Counting down to your next birthday instead? Use the birthday countdown. For today's age, go to the age calculator; to compare two people, use the age gap calculator.

How the Age on a Date Calculator Works

The calculator counts from your date of birth to the target date in complete years, then complete months, then remaining days, borrowing days from the previous month when needed, exactly as an age is counted today. Because it uses real calendar dates, leap years and month lengths are handled automatically, which is why it can differ by one year from simply subtracting the years.

How the Age on a Date Calculator Saves You Time

Subtracting years gives the wrong answer for anyone whose birthday falls later in the target year. The calculator gives the exact age on any date, past or future, in one step.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old will I be in 2050?

Subtract your birth year from 2050. Born in 1990, you turn 60 during 2050; born in 2000, you turn 50. Until your birthday that year, you are one year younger. Enter your date of birth and tap Age in 2050 for your exact age on 1 July 2050, or pick any other date.

How old will I be in 2030?

Take 2030 minus your birth year to get the age you turn that year: 1995 gives 35 and 2010 gives 20. Your exact age on any date in 2030 depends on whether your birthday has passed yet, which the calculator works out for you.

How old was I in a past year, such as 2016?

Subtract your birth year from 2016 for the age you turned that year. For a specific day in 2016, enter it as the target date and the calculator shows your exact age then, in years, months and days, and says 'you were' rather than 'you will be'.

Can I check my age on a date for school admission?

Yes. Enter your child's date of birth and the school's cut-off date, for example 31 August or 1 September, as the target date. The result shows the exact age on that day, which is what admission rules check.

Does the calculator count leap years?

Yes. It uses real calendar dates, so every 29 February between the two dates is counted and months of different lengths are handled correctly. That is why the exact answer can differ from a simple year subtraction by up to a year.

What year will I turn 18, 21 or 65?

Add the age to your birth year: born in 2008, you turn 18 in 2026; born in 1961, you turn 65 in 2026. To see the exact age on a particular day, enter that date as the target date in the calculator.
