Which Generation Am I In?

Your generation depends on your birth year: 1946–1964 Baby Boomer, 1965–1980 Gen X, 1981–1996 Millennial, 1997–2012 Gen Z, 2013–2024 Gen Alpha and 2025 onwards Gen Beta, using the Pew Research Center's widely used ranges. Born in 2000? You're Gen Z. Born in 1990? Millennial.

Why Sources Disagree

Generation boundaries aren't official. They're conventions set by researchers. The Pew Research Center's ranges are the most widely cited in the US, and this tool follows them. Australian researcher Mark McCrindle, who named Generation Alpha, starts it in 2010, so people born 2010–2012 can be called either Gen Z or Gen Alpha. Read more in what Generation Beta means.

Zillennials: The Cusp Generation

People born roughly 1994 to 1999 sit on the boundary between Millennials and Gen Z, and some call themselves "Zillennials". It's an informal label, not a research category, for people who remember life before smartphones but grew up online.

How the Generation Calculator Works

The calculator reads your birth year and places it in the generation ranges published by Pew Research Center, the most widely cited source: Millennials 1981 to 1996, Generation Z 1997 to 2012, and so on. Because other sources draw the lines a year or two differently, birth years near a boundary are flagged as a cusp, such as the Zillennials born roughly 1994 to 1999. It also shows your current age and life stage from the full date of birth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What generation am I if I was born in 2000?

Gen Z. Using the Pew Research Center's ranges, Generation Z covers people born from 1997 to 2012, so anyone born in 2000, 2001 or 2002 is Gen Z. People born in 2000 turn 26 in 2026.

Am I Gen Z or a Millennial?

If you were born between 1981 and 1996 you are a Millennial, and if you were born between 1997 and 2012 you are Gen Z, by Pew's ranges. People born around 1994 to 1999, near the boundary, sometimes call themselves Zillennials because they share traits of both.

What generation is someone born in 2013?

Generation Alpha. This calculator starts Gen Alpha in 2013, right after Pew's Gen Z range ends in 2012, and runs it to 2024. Mark McCrindle, who coined the name, starts Gen Alpha in 2010, so people born in 2010 to 2012 may see either label.

How old is Gen Z in 2026?

Gen Z, born 1997 to 2012, are aged about 14 to 29 in 2026. The oldest are approaching 30 and well into their careers, while the youngest are still in secondary school.

What are Generation Beta's birth years?

Generation Beta is the proposed name for children born from 2025 to 2039, coined by researcher Mark McCrindle after Generation Alpha. The first Gen Betas are toddlers now, and most will be the children of younger Millennials and Gen Z parents.

Why do different sources give different generation years?

There is no official standard. Generations are conventions chosen by researchers such as the Pew Research Center and McCrindle, and media outlets pick whichever suits them. Boundaries can differ by a year or two, especially around 1996 to 1997 and 2010 to 2013.
