Title Case vs Sentence Case

In title case, the main words are capitalised and short words like a, an, the, and, of, in stay lowercase unless they come first. In sentence case, only the first word and proper nouns get a capital. Many news sites and style guides such as APA use sentence case for some headings, while books and most English-language headlines use title case. Pick one style and use it consistently. Note that the converter can't know which words are names, so check proper nouns after using sentence case.

How the Text Case Converter Works

Each button applies a fixed rule to your text. UPPERCASE and lowercase change every letter. Title Case capitalises each word but keeps short words such as a, an, the, and, of, in and to lowercase unless they come first or last. Sentence case lowercases everything, then capitalises the first letter of the text and the first letter after each full stop, question mark or exclamation mark. camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case first split the text into words at spaces, hyphens, underscores and existing capitals, then join them in the chosen style. Line breaks are kept.

How the Text Case Converter Saves You Time

Retyping a paragraph that was written with Caps Lock on, or renaming a list of headings by hand, can take several minutes. Pasting it here and clicking a button takes a few seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between title case and sentence case?

Title case capitalises the main words of a heading, like The Lord of the Rings, while keeping short words such as of and the lowercase. Sentence case capitalises only the first word and proper nouns, like The lord of the rings. Both are correct; the style you follow decides which to use.

Which small words stay lowercase in title case?

Usually short articles, conjunctions and prepositions: a, an, the, and, but, or, for, nor, of, in, on, at, to and by. They are capitalised when they are the first word of the title. Style guides differ slightly, for example on longer prepositions such as with or about.

How do I fix text typed in caps lock?

Paste the text and click Sentence case to turn it into normal sentences with a capital at the start of each one, or lowercase to remove all capitals. Then check names and acronyms, which a converter cannot recognise, and capitalise them yourself.

What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case used for?

They are naming styles for programming and the web. camelCase (myVariableName) is common in JavaScript and Java, snake_case (my_variable_name) in Python and databases, and kebab-case (my-variable-name) in URLs, CSS classes and file names, because spaces are not allowed there.

Can I convert a whole document at once?

Yes. Paste as much text as you like, from a single heading to several pages, and click the case you need. Line breaks are kept, so paragraphs stay separate. Copy the result back into your document when you're done.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser with JavaScript, and nothing you paste is uploaded, stored or logged. That makes it safe to use for private notes, drafts and work documents.
